The oldest of the great cognac houses, Martell celebrates landmark 300th anniversary
with the release of Martell XO Exclusive Tricentenaire Edition
September, 2014 – Cognac, France
Martell Cognac has today announced the launch of a limited edition decanter accompanied by an exceptional blend matured in barrels crafted from a 300-year old tree, the Martell XO Exclusive Tricentenaire Edition. This exquisite creation is a fitting tribute to Martell’s most trustworthy allies since 1715 – time and wood – and a true collector’s item.
In celebration of the House’s Tricentenary, the House of Martell has created a dazzling interpretation of the classic Martell XO decanter. The arched shaped is recognisable, with fine silver lines on the entire surface of the carafe to represent the ‘lifelines’ of oak wood. There is also the profile of the swift in flight, the Martell emblem. The tip of the cork is adorned with a cabochon carved from the very same tree that was used to make the aging barrels and engraved with the tricentenary emblem. Sitting beside the decanter is the exclusive Martell Tricentenary blend, in a beautiful 10cl montre, a miniature bottle distillers traditionally present their samples in.
Benoît Fil, Martell’s Cellar Master commented: “This new unique Tricentenary blend is a “sketch” of the classic Martell XO, with eaux-de-vie in the lead role, strongly complementing the woody notes, offering an aromatic palette of surprising depth in this category. The structure of the Grande and Petite Champagne blends harmoniously with the light fruitness of the Fins Bois. This new blends truly capture the three centuries of life, of 300 years of turning cognac into art.”
On sight, the blend presents a radiant amber colour, with copper highlights. The nose reveals subtle notes of stewed fruit and cherry jam. On the palate, the attack is full, fruity notes are enhanced by hints of figs and raisins and woody notes unfold perfectly, creating a rich, structured ensemble. The sensation ends with a perfect length, and a lingering on the palate.
The decanter and Tricentenary blend are preciously encased in a prestigious shimmering rose-gold packaging, with an opening mechanism in the front.
Martell XO Exclusive Tricentenaire Edition is one of five Limited Edition blends that will be available from September 2014 to celebrate Martell’s 300th anniversary. The complete range includes Martell Premier Assemblage, Cordon Bleu “A Tribute to Martell’s 300 year anniversary”, Martell XO Exclusive Tricentenaire Edition, Martell Assemblage Exclusif de 3 millésimes , and Martell Premier Voyage. ABOUT MARTELL COGNAC
Martell’s heritage dates back to the 18th Century, when Jean Martell, a native of Jersey founded the company in 1715, making Martell the oldest of the great cognac houses. Since 1715 Martell has produced, exported and marketed cognacs whose quality is recognised worldwide.
The hallmark of the house of Martell can be summarised in three key terms; elegance, complexity and balance
Martell Cognac was founded in 1715, at the height of the French Art de Vivre movement; a period of time in which gastronomy, tasting and craftsmanship were all celebrated and enjoyed with style. As such, these became the three pillars of the Martell House and are the three core areas which still remain intrinsic to Martell’s vision today.
