This limited edition sees the iconic Martell Cordon Bleu blend complete its ageing in casks subjected to intense heat; the “chauffe crocodile”, offering an unprecedented experience – an exploration of the fascinating alchemy between the eaux-de-vie and the wood of the casks in which they are aged, and a revelation of the impact of wood and heat on one of the world’s classic cognacs.
Martell Cordon Bleu Intense Heat is created through a toasting and six month finishing process never before used by Martell. The result is a cognac that retains the exceptional quality of the original Martell Cordon Bleu but with heightened fruit and spice taste notes. By increasing the heat applied to Martell Oak casks in a technique called ‘chauffe Crocodile’, the new cognac boasts intense aromas, a fruity citrus sweetness, a toasted nuttiness and robust spice.
To celebrate the launch of Martell Cordon Bleu Intense Heat, the House of Martell instigated a double collaboration to create an entire tasting ritual inspired by wood and heat. Leading mixologist Clotilde Lataille invented a signature Intense Heat cocktail, while wood artist Nic Webb crafted a mixing spoon and serving tray from staves with a burnt effect reminiscent of bousinage.
In exploring the impact of wood and heat on its emblematic cognac, the House of Martell is expressing its own spirit of curiosity. In discovering Martell Cordon Bleu Intense Heat, true cognac connoisseurs will be indulging theirs.
Launched in January 2017 in Asia Pacific Travel Retail with tasting activities created by Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail in key airports and border shops, Martell Cordon Bleu Intense Heat is now available globally in select countries including the US and UK.
Martell, the oldest of the great cognac houses, was founded by Jean Martell in 1715 at the height of French art de vivre, when gastronomy, taste and craftsmanship were celebrated and enjoyed with style. These became the three pillars of the House of Martell and remain intrinsic to the Martell vision today. For three centuries, Martell has produced, exported and marketed cognacs which are recognized worldwide for their outstanding quality and finesse, obtained through double distillation of exclusively clear wines and aging in fine-grained oak casks.
